With a historic $500 million fund, the Government of Canada is enhancing Integrated Youth Services (IYS), a “one-stop shop” model offering free, accessible mental health care for youth aged 12 to 25. New initiatives like the IYS Collaboration Centre and Data Platform aim to unify networks, share best practices, and improve outcomes nationwide.

The Government of Canada is addressing urgent mental health needs for the youth with transformative investments in Integrated Youth Services (IYS). This proven “one-stop shop” model connects youth aged 12 to 25 with essential mental health, addiction, sexual health, education, and employment services. Available in-person or virtually, IYS ensures barrier-free, community-based care without referrals.

On December 6, Minister Ya’ara Saks unveiled two pivotal initiatives:

  1. IYS Collaboration Centre – Facilitates nationwide coordination among IYS hubs, sharing best practices to enhance support for diverse youth populations.
  2. IYS Data Platform – Provides comprehensive data for improved mental health care and early intervention strategies.

Supported by Canada’s historic $500 million Youth Mental Health Fund, these initiatives expand services and strengthen mental health systems for equity-deserving groups, including Indigenous, Black, newcomer, and 2SLGBTQ+ youth.
With $15 million allocated to CAMH for the Collaboration Centre and over $17 million directed to developing the Data Platform, Canada aims to revolutionize youth mental health care through evidence-based, collaborative, and inclusive approaches.

Minister Ya’ara Saks highlighted, “Integrated Youth Services hubs meet young people where they’re at, ensuring access to free, timely support so they can thrive.”
Dr. Jo Henderson and Dr. Steve Mathias emphasized that these investments will empower communities to transform care quality, paving the way for innovative, dynamic solutions to youth mental health challenges.

Through IYS, Canada is taking bold steps to reduce wait times, alleviate emergency room pressures, and ensure every young person receives the support they deserve.
