Federal Program Grants Two MacEwan Faculty Members $1.2M for Research

MacEwan University Faculty Members Award Winners

MacEwan University has received $1.2 million in federal funding through the Canada Research Chairs program, supporting two distinguished faculty members in their research projects.

The prestigious appointments have been granted to two professors: Associate Professor Dr. Leanne Hedberg from the Department of Management and Organizations will focus on Social Entrepreneurship in Disadvantaged and Marginalized Communities, while Assistant Professor Dr. Farzan Baradaran Rahimi from the Department of Design will lead research in Immersive Learning.

These Tier 2 positions, reserved for outstanding emerging scholars recognized by their academic peers, provide $120,000 in annual funding over a five-year term, with the possibility of one renewal.

Provost and Vice-President, Academic Dr. Craig Monk emphasized how these appointments strengthen the university’s strategic objectives: “The addition of these Research Chairs perfectly complements our university’s vision of community engagement, intellectual leadership, and educational excellence. Having Dr. Hedberg and Dr. Baradaran Rahimi spearhead research in these vital fields comes at an opportune time, as we work toward our goal of expanding to serve 30,000 students by 2030.”
